I would like to take just a moment and introduce myself and invite you and your Scouts to the 4th Annual Fort Knox Grotto’s “Cave-In” Campout at Camp Carlson on Fort Knox Army Installation.
My name is Steven Austin and I am the coordinator for the event. The Fort Knox Grotto originally chartered back in 1972 and disbanded in 1980. The Grotto is a “chapter” (we call ourselves grotto’s) of the National Speleological Society, headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama. We are an organized group of explorers, scientists and aspiring scientists that are dedicated to the conservation, education and exploration of caves. We participate in a myriad of scientific experiments and on going studies, such as: bat censuses, hydrological data collection, biodiversity studies, and general geological studies to name just a few.
