The gold in Fort Knox is not the only
unseen treasure in this area. Beneath your feet in Breckinridge,
Hardin & Meade Counties are unexplored worlds. Cave
entrances dot the surface all around and offer many exciting
opportunities for exploration, conservation and study.
Many people all around the world have heard of Mammoth
Cave and other famous commercial caves, but few know about
the many caves in this region.
The Fort Knox Grotto, a local chapter of the National
Speleological Society (NSS), conducts regular meetings
and serves to bring cavers (...commonly called spelunkers)
together within this general area and coordinate activities.
Originally established in 1979, the Fort Knox Grotto is
once again offering an invitation to one and all to come
learn about this exciting activity. The Fort Knox Grotto
will help you get involved regardless of caving experience
or fitness level.
